TOKYO JAZZ 2002

On August 18 (Sun), in Summer of 2002, nightclubs all over the city of Tokyo will be part of "2002 TOKYO JAZZ X", an event to celebrate the forthcoming of "TOKYO JAZZ", the memorable event in the history of jazz in Japan.
Your first admission to any nightclubs under the list will allow you to enjoy a free pass to enter it all!! Limited to one night, you can enjoy the improvisation of a dream event "Tokyo Jazz X"!!

Why does the term "jazz" tend to drive beginners away?We would like the young generation in their 20's who are always ahead of their times and responsive to new fangles, to feel more close to the sounds of jazz through "TOKYO JAZZ". Moreover, we hope "TOKYO JAZZ," an event transmitting its sound globally, to permeate into peoples' daily lives as high-profile term.

Outline 25 nightclubs in Tokyo will be a part of "2002 Tokyo Jazz X" simultaneously. They will create their own atmosphere of jazz respectively according to their styles. DJs will make its own choice upon playing jazz records, live performances can be enjoyed, etc. Visitors will freely enjoy the unique atmosphere presented.
* Admission charged at your first entry to any of the clubs listed below will automatically become a free pass allowing you to enter all participating nightclubs on the date of the event.

TOKYO JAZZ - This summer, a whole new style of music festival will be born at Tokyo Stadium!! Having Herbie Hancock, a man of pulling force in various music scenes, as the music producer, a whole new, 21st century style jazz will be produced. In association, "TOKYO JAZZ 2002 -Jazz is Coming to Town-," an event aimed for people in the community to enjoy and become more familiar with jazz, will be held in association to the opening of "TOKYO JAZZ".

Outline Performances by jazz musicians whose activities center around the community and Recruitment of "TOKYO JAZZ" Volunteer Staffs.

(A part of Orahosengawa Summer Festival. No postponement in case of light rain.)
Performance by Early Times Jazz Band (Dixieland Jazz for children with 8 performers of which 5 are wind instruments ) and Chuo University's Swing Crystal Orchestra (Big Band Jazz for adults)
